NEW YORK – (May 25, 2022) – Team Whistle, the global sports media and entertainment company's newest original series, ‘What’s In The Box?’ is set to premiere on Wednesday, June 1 on Whistle’s YouTube page, their social media handles, and their Whistle TV, ad-supported sports and entertainment digital network available on The Roku Channel and other OTT platforms. Hosted by Jacques Slade, creator and sneaker expert, each episode of ‘What’s in the Box?’ will lean into the nostalgia of the most beloved and celebrated footwear and memorabilia through the years. Each episode will kick off with the gifting to serve as an entry point for unpacking the personal stories of athletes and entertainers' most meaningful sneakers and momentos. The series looks to highlight the universal stories and emotional connection we all have with our kicks and other commemorative items.
"I love sneakers and sneaker culture, so I jumped at the chance to gift our guests with pairs that brought back memories of their past. What I often love most is the story behind the kicks,” said Jacques Slade. “Each guest shared intimate and vulnerable parts of themselves, all sparked by a seemingly innocuous sneaker. It was an honor to present those shoes to my guests, knowing the memories they would inspire from their life journey."
“It was really exciting and fun to be a part of this series. I received a gift that brought me down memory lane, revisiting some of my best basketball memories,‘’ said Cole Anthony. “I loved reminiscing and any chance I get to share some of that with the fans I’m here for.”
“A staggering 91% of Whistle fans want to know more about athletes and entertainers on a personal level. Memorabilia, especially sneakers, have an emotional component, and an ability to conjure emotions and memories, '' said Evan Silver, VP of Content at Team Whistle. “We were excited to present our guests with gifts that we know would trigger those memories to allow audiences to get to know them on a deeper level.”
The premiere episode features Cole Anthony, professional basketball player for the Orlando Magic, while the second episode features Gilbert Arenas, American former professional basketball player. In the third episode, we meet Coi Leray, American Rapper. In the fourth we feature Mike Williams, Receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers, and in the fifth, Tea Cooper, Basketball Player for the Los Angeles Sparks.
