NEW YORK – (October 1, 2021) –Team Whistle, the global sports media and entertainment company, and Follow Through, a creative studio, have announced the start of production on a new series “Double Duty” chronicling the journey of athlete parenthood. More than half (56%) of all working parents with children under the age of 18 say balancing the responsibilities of their job with the responsibilities of their family is difficult. The series was born from the growing appetite for relatable sports stories that show the experience of athletes as regular people with the same struggles of navigating the balancing act.

There is no question that being an athlete is difficult, but being a parent is even more challenging. Unlike their professional endeavors, you can’t retire from parenting. In “Double Duty” we get a firsthand look at superstar athletes, who happen to be parents, and see what it takes to consistently do both well at a high level. From waking up at 5am to get their workout in, to running back home to get their kids dressed for school, knowing playbooks front to back is the easiest task on this roster of parents’ plates. We’ll be invited into homes, gyms, classrooms, and businesses where we’ll meet their family and support system who can add more to the story of the obstacles these athlete parents face daily.

“As a former NFL tight end, my career was incredibly rewarding, but I can tell you it doesn’t compare to the value I place on my role as a dad,” said Greg Olsen, former NFL Player. “My father played a dual role in my life as coach and dad, and he always instilled in me the importance of prioritizing family. I’ve taken that to heart as one of my greatest joys is coaching my sons in baseball. My family has experienced both challenging and beautiful times, and I look forward to showing an honest look at our lives as my wife and I work to pass the baton to our children.”

“Working parents are angels on earth. We are super excited to honor some of the most inspiring stories in the game that celebrate the range of the athlete experience, “ said Noah Weissman, SVP of Content at Team Whistle. “Our “Double Duty” series shows the intimate realities of life off the field or court for these athletes who balance their careers with their roles as parents.”

“Athletes are some of the most well known figures in our culture, but so rarely do we get to see who they are and what motivates them in private, “ said CJ Toledano, Founder and Creative Director of Follow Through. “I couldn’t be more excited to partner with Whistle to tell some of these deeper stories that delve into these athletes and the day to day challenges they face balancing life as a parent with their careers.”

The athletes featured include: soccer player, Jess McDonald, retired football player, Greg Olsen, American basketball player, JaVale McGee, MMA Fighter, Cat Zingano, football player, Chris Harris Jr. and more. The series is set to premiere in the fall on Whistle TV, Team Whistle’s free ad-supported sports and entertainment digital network available on The Roku Channel and other OTT platforms including: Samsung TV Plus, Vizio, TCL, Plex, DistroTV, STIRR, and LocalNow. We brokered deals in partnership with Cinedigm (NASDAQ:CIDM). It currently reaches over 70 million households in the US.
